Summary:

Hypergranulation tissue is an excessive growth of granulation tissue in a wound and is a problem that can be encountered in burn care when wounds take a significant time to heal at burn sites themselves or at skin graft donor sites. Many different wound care regimens have been devised to address this problem; however, often, these methods are painful, expensive, and can lead to worsening of the hypergranulation tissue due to local inflammation and irritation.

Our researchers developed a new topical formulation cream of bacitracin, polymyxin b, and triamcinolone for treating hypergranulation tissue for burn care and skin graft treatment. Daily topical application of this novel formulation to burn patients reduced inflammation and led to improvements in the hypergranulation tissue and eventual complete resolution of the hypergranulation tissue.
