Design of a Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic Tissue Removal Device: “Morceshaver” (Tissue Morcellator)

Tech ID: 12B160

Competitive Advantages

  • Cutting and transporting tissue in an all in one design
  • Reducing surgical fatigue
  • Reducing surgery time

Summary

USF inventors have successfully designed a safe, ergonomic, and time efficient laparoscopic tissue removal device for use during traditional and complex hysterectomy surgeries. An advantage is its all-in-one design which gives the ability to both cut and transport tissue, reducing the possibility of leaving unwanted tissue within the body cavity. This is accomplished with a retractable sheath that safely houses the cutting blades. The sheath can be used as an adjustable blade barrier to allow an increase or decrease in surface area of the exposed blade.  This laparoscopic design can cut, core, and extract tissue in one device. This will reduce both surgery time and surgical fatigue.
