Advanced Cutin Thin Protective Films

Tech ID: 18A063

Competitive Advantages

  • Inexpensive production costs
  • Protects against extreme temperatures
  • Does  not crack or corrode
  • Flexible coating film

Summary

We have developed sustainable cutin films from cacti that can be synthesized for functional coating applications. These films are thin, strong, and protective. Further, they do not increase friction and exhibit properties similar to those found on the outer surface of cacti. These films are inexpensive to produce and are very flexible, making them ideal to coat the surface of countless devices including wind turbines. This technology can protect wind turbines from extremely low temperatures with the synthesis and application process costing less than $100 per turbine.
