A Single Active Layer Electrochromic Device

Tech ID: 17A004

Competitive Advantages

  •     Simplified structure
  •     Cost efficient
  •     Single active layer
  •     Reversible color change

Summary

We have discovered a technique to create cost effective electrochromic devices with a single active layer without sacrificing any functionality.  A single active layer is placed between two conducting glass plates to make the device.  The composition and thickness of the active layer has the ability to be varied in order to produce reversible color change at various voltages. The electrochromic device has a wide range of applications such as camouflage for the military and defense sectors, sensors, toys and display applications. In addition, it has potential applications in making smart windows for the modulation of incoming light and with liquid crystal display (LCD) systems.
