Competitive Advantages:
• Automatically detects seizures
• False detection override option
• Comfortable and non-bulky
• Meets highest Coast Guard Personal Flotation Device regulations
Summary
Our inventors have developed a device capable of automatically detecting seizures via electromyography (EMG) signals from electrodes placed on the user’s skin. It deploys life-saving flotation while not hindering normal aquatic activity when not deployed. The device includes a hydrogen gas-generating component inside of a specifically designed neoprene garment which provides the user with freedom of movement by providing a comfortable, yet tight fit. The system includes a manual override in case of a false detection, and a manual activation method similar to traditional deployable flotation devices that can be turned on at any time. Additionally, the system is constructed to provide enough buoyant force to meet the highest Coast Guard Personal Flotation Device regulations. This device will offer peace of mind to seizure sufferers that wish to participate in various aquatic activities.
