DLockout: A Design Lockout Technique for Key Obfuscated RTL IP Designs

Tech ID: 19A058

Competitive Advantages

•    Add-on to existing obfuscation approaches
•    Avoids frequently executed paths to prevent costly transformations
•    Locks out the design to increase difficulty of reverse engineering

Summary

Our inventors have developed the DLockout technique that provides an add-on to existing hardware IP obfuscation approaches. It couples a lightweight design lockout module (XOR) with an input obfuscation module (multiplexer). This approach will verify the applied key to an obfuscated design and if the attempts are more than the predefined value, the design will lock out. The obfuscation is performed in a way to steer clear of frequently executed paths which will avoid costly transformations and improve execution time. This technology is valuable to the semiconductor and integrated circuits industry in order to increase hardware security.
