Power Efficient Joint-Radar Communication

Tech ID: 20B140

Competitive Advantages

  • Improves power efficiency
  • Feasible for both mono and bi-static systems
  • It has slightly less OOBs emission

Summary

Joint radar-communication (JRC) systems are being considered as enablers for 5G, 6G, vehicle-to-vehicle communication and sensing for autonomous vehicles. However, prior attempts at merging communication and radar applications often result in a significant tradeoff between radar resolution and communication data rate performance. To meet modern data demands, new waveforms need to be proposed.

This invention proposes the use of a novel, Unique Word (UW) - orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) waveform for joint radar-sensing and communication. This new scheme merges efficient power patterns for radar while maintaining low out-of-band emissions for good communication performance. Additionally, this invention can be utilized for both mono-static and bi-static radar scenarios simultaneously. It can be marketed to government agencies, communication-infrastructure companies, vehicle, and electronic devices manufacturers.
